1. Introduction

Artificial Intelligence(AI) should not stop until reaching the human level, in order to reach its peak potential it must go beyond the capabilities of humans. AI can be extended into multiple types but in terms of classification, it has been classified into two types i) Weak Artificial Intelligence or Narrow AI ii) Strong Artificial Intelligence

2. What is called Weak Artificial Intelligence?

Weak Artificial Intelligence also refers to Narrow Artificial Intelligence is the branch of AI that can solve the problem statement for which it has been designed. The Weak AI simply acts and decides according to the rules imposed on it, and it cannot act beyond these rules. Weak AI is not a generic AI and can be used for the task for which it is designed, for example, Apple’s Siri and Amazon assistant are the weak AI which can answer our most queries because of linking to the huge database.

On the other hand, immature domains of AI can be called Weak AI applications, for example, OCR was considered weak AI initially, because of its poor results in past, but now it can be considered as strong AI because of extraordinary results. In the current era, speech recognition can be considered as a Weak AI application because there are no extraordinary results yet in the corresponding domain.

3. Comparison with other types

Some famous buzz words like strong AI, general AI, and superintelligence are synonyms and basically refers to the same thing. All algorithms or techniques which can be considered as a solution to all tasks, better in performance than a human can be considered as Strong AI. In the current era, there is no existence of strong AI, and currently, there is no probability to get there. It is considered a strong AI, because of the thought that it will perform better than the human and it is generic because it will deal with all kinds of tasks.

4. Application

Artificial Intelligence is today widely used for various applications in domains like computer vision e.g object detection and classification, speech recognition, decision-making, perception, reasoning, cognitive capabilities, Natural language processing e.g language translation, Chatbots, Sentiment analysis, Sales Prediction, Facial expression recognition, Image tagging, Self-driving cars and many more. In today’s world, Human cognitive senses are being tried to be implemented in machines, which can be used further in every aspect of life. Virtual personal assistants, such as Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa, are a form of weak AI. Siri is a suitable example of weak intelligence. Siri operates within a limited pre- a defined range of functions. There is no genuine intelligence or no self-awareness despite being a sophisticated example of weak AI. Siri brings several narrow AI techniques to the capabilities of an iPhone.

Another example would be a Pokemon game where a machine beats humans where in which all rules and moves are already fed into the machine. Here each and every possible scenario needs to be entered beforehand manually. Each and every weak AI can help in the building of strong AI. Another application of weak AI is expert systems that are specific for any expert knowledge task and cannot perform any other task, because system properties are fixed for that problem, so in order to solve any other problem new system will be needed.

5. Conclusion

In conclusion, it can be said that research is getting progress in Artificial Intelligence, there is extraordinary performance but not better than or equal to human performance. So, it can be said that there is still no defined pathway for getting into strong AI and the current era is going with weak AI.
